The overarching goal of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater New Haven (BGCGNH) programs is to give youth an alternative to just hanging out on the street and a safe, positive, and engaging out-of-school environment where children and teens explore, learn, and have fun.
BGCGNH offers special programs for our middle and high school members. By offering youth access to a positive environment and access to caring staff, they are more likely to achieve positive outcomes in the priority areas of academic success, character and leadership, and healthy lifestyles. For our middle school youth, we’re proud to offer Boys & Girls Club of America’s evidenced-based programming, including:
Middle School Open Club Night: A night when we open the club for middle school students to gather, allowing them to build relationships with peers while engaging in low-organized activities, such as open gym and e-gaming. Supervised by adult staff, the middle school students also are mentored and learn to build relationships with adults.
Teen Program: For our high school students, we offer workforce development activities focusing on youth economic development and college readiness, including soft skills building, resume development, and career exploration. On Fridays, we offer Open Club Night following the same format as our Middle School program.
For our high school youth, we also offer evidenced-based programming including:
Diplomas to Degrees: A college readiness program that guides Club members as they work toward high school graduation and prepare for post-secondary education and career success. Through Project Learn, youth receive homework help and tutoring and participate in enrichment games that help develop young people’s cognitive skills and improve academic performance.
Keystone Club: This program provides leadership development opportunities for young people ages 14 to 18. Youth participate in activities in three focus areas: academic success, career preparation, and community service. With the guidance of an adult advisor, Keystone Club members aim to positively impact members, the Club, and the community.
By investing in middle school and high school students, our programs support youth as they prepare for adulthood!
If your teen could benefit from any of these programs, learn more about our clubs and become a member today.
