2nd Stop: North Haven and Wallingford Torch Club Meeting

At first glance…

I had the opportunity to witness a fun BINGO event with our Tween members during their Torch Club program! This afternoon brought together tweens from Wallingford and North Haven, creating an opportunity for members to engage with new peers, build friendships, and enjoy a night of fun competition dedicated to pure fun. Watching the excitement and camaraderie of a tween Torch Club event – BINGO night – was rewarding for me!

As the game unfolded, I had the opportunity to interact with Torch Club members—peer-elected leaders and officers of their club—who demonstrated enthusiasm, leadership, and teamwork. Through conversations that evening, I was amazed to learn that the Torch Club youth leaders planned and ran the entire Bingo event! Hearing about their goals, interests, and how the club fosters responsibility and service made it even more inspiring.

 A deeper connection…

The Torch Club event not only highlighted the importance of peer connections but also reinforced the role of the Boys & Girls Clubs in developing future leaders through meaningful engagement and mentorship. With 119,000 teens in Connecticut disconnected from schools and communities, we know there’s still more work to do. Tween- and teen- focused programs, such as Torch Club, are an excellent opportunity to engage youth, while allowing them to have a voice in how the program runs and operates. We’re determined to expand tween and teen programming and keep our doors open later in the evening and on weekends.

Join me on this journey…

As I embark on my first year, shaping the organization’s vision while building on its strong values and culture is a top priority. But I can’t do it alone—community engagement is essential to our success. I want to hear from you!
